  1. What attracted you to flying?

JF: I’ve always loved airplanes. For as long as I can remember I’ve always been captivated every time I see a plane fly overhead. I still am. Mom likes to tell a story about me pointing up from the car seat and squealing at airplanes before I could even talk..

  1. What influenced you to actually make the phone call to begin learning to fly?

JF: I was fortunate enough to be born in to the world of aviation. My Dad flew for Continental Airlines and had a lot of friends who owned their own airplanes. Thanks to them I learned how to fly at a very young age, before I even started high school. Once I was hooked, I got a job after school and paid for my own lessons once a week and managed to solo at age 16 and get my private license at age 17 at Timmerman airport in Milwaukee.

  1. What’s the most memorable flight you’ve ever been on?

JF: Probably one of my first. My Dads friend Tom owned his own Mooney and has a runway in his back yard on a ranch in Texas. Tom is an ex Navy Fighter Pilot and that guy knows how to give a kid his first REAL ride in a small airplane. After that I was unconditionally hooked.

  1. Who / What inspires you?

JF: My Dad was a huge inspiration to me and here is a good example. I have a framed photograph of my dad, standing up with a parachute, a smile, and a broken pelvis, after completing his last jump to obtain his skydiving license in the early 1960’s. He broke numerous bones on several occasions, but stuck it out and obtained his license because that was a goal of his. He still inspires me today.

  1. What other interests do you have outside of flying?

JF: What is there besides flying? Ha ha.. Kidding, sort of. I really enjoy shooting, and try to get out and do that as much as possible, be it target shooting with a rifle/pistol, or trap/skeet shooting with a shotgun. I’m also a bit of a Flight simulator nerd. I seriously just can’t get enough.

  1. What is something about you that few people know about?

JF: I’m afraid of heights…

  1. What’s on your bucket list?

JF: Well one item that I plan on checking off this summer is Skydiving. AFF. I’ve got one tandem in the books and I really want my own rig the next time I jump. Nothing against Charlie Hogan, who tries to throw me out of a plane (tandem) every chance he gets :-P

  1. What do you do for work? If you could do anything as an occupation – what would it be?

JF: Fly of course!!! From October to May I work as an aerial mapping pilot flying all over the country mapping out various projects. While I’m home in the summer I work on the flight line at Timmerman airport, and fly at WSC.

  1. What are your future goals?

JF: I’m leaning towards following in my Dads footsteps, and becoming an Airline Pilot in the not so distant future. Another goal I have is eventually getting my A license, and my own rig. Oh and hit the Power Ball. That is definitely a future goal of mine!!!!
