Key Takeaways
Tandem skydiving in Wisconsin typically costs between $230 and $300, depending on discounts, group rates, and available add-ons. The cost of a skydive reflects the extensive equipment, resources, and highly-trained staff required to make it happen. Choosing a reputable dropzone is more important than finding the lowest price, as safety, equipment quality, and instructor experience matter. For those who want to continue beyond a tandem jump, earning a skydiving license costs about $3,500 and opens the door to more affordable solo skydiving around the world.

One of the first questions people ask when they are considering jumping out of an airplane is: How much is skydiving? It depends on where you live and the individual dropzone, but typically ranges from $200-$350. Of course, we might be biased, but if you’re looking to go skydiving, Wisconsin is the place to do it!

At Wisconsin Skydiving Center, our tandem jump cost starts at $289, with options for discounts and add ons, and we offer a best-in-class training program to learn how to skydive solo. Let’s dig into the details so you can confidently answer: How much does it cost to go skydiving in Wisconsin?

What’s Included in the Cost of a Tandem Skydive?

You might look at those numbers and think, it’s just a single jump, why is skydiving so expensive? A lot goes one behind the scenes to execute each and every skydive, and the costs associated with running a top-notch dropzone like Wisconsin Skydiving Center are numerous and ongoing.

From fuel and the maintenance of aircraft, skydiving equipment, and facilities, to the engagement of highly-trained and experienced pilots, instructors, camera flyers, riggers, parachute packers, and support staff, the overhead is significant. There’s a lot of manpower, materials, and maintenance that goes into responsibly running a dropzone.

Why the Cheapest Skydive Isn’t Always the Best Deal

In some areas of life, it’s okay to search for deals. You can’t beat BOGO bags of chips. But when it comes to something like skydiving, deliberately searching for a bargain-basement price is the exact opposite of a smart move.

There is not a way to make skydiving cheap without cutting serious corners, like using older equipment, poorly maintained aircraft, and less experienced personnel. And cutting those corners could be seriously risky business. Your literal life depends on all aspects of the jump being top notch, so you want to make sure you’re choosing the most reputable business you can find.

Is Skydiving Worth the Money?

So, is skydiving worth the price? And to that, we say absolutely. There’s nothing else that you can do in this life that is anything like jumping out of an airplane. The sensations, the views, and the lasting impact it has on your life is unmatched.

The cost of the jump not only gives you the opportunity to experience the magic of human flight, but it will also change the way you view the world. You’ll be more confident, motivated, and optimistic after your skydive.

Skydiving isn’t just a fun experience, it’s a worthwhile investment.

How Much Does It Cost to Get a Skydiving License?

We have even more good news about skydiving – you don’t have to stop after one jump.

Everyone you meet at the dropzone, even your instructor, once did their own very first tandem jump. If you love the sky as much as we do, you can continue jumping after your tandem with the Accelerated Freefall (AFF) student program

AFF is a combination of instruction on the ground and practical in-air lessons that teach you how to skydive solo. Earning your skydiving license is a larger investment than a single tandem because it includes classroom time, instructor support, gear, and multiple jumps.

So now you’re wondering: How expensive is it to get into skydiving solo? All in, the student program to get your skydiving license costs around $3,500. That price includes classroom teaching, gear rental, individualized instructor training, and 25 skydives. At Wisconsin Skydiving Center, we offer the option to pay as you go so that our training is accessible to as many people as possible.

And once you complete the program, you can jump as a solo licensed skydiver with other licensed skydivers, anywhere in the world! One of the benefits of investing in a skydiving license is that the cost per jump decreases significantly for licensed jumpers. It typically costs around $30 per jump, though that number can change depending on altitude, location, and other factors.

Is Skydiving an Expensive Hobby?

Compared to many hobbies, skydiving does come in on the higher side regarding costs. But those costs are highly dependent on how much you want to invest in the sport.

You can choose to rent gear, buy new gear, or purchase used gear from other skydivers. You can travel or hang tight at your home dropzone. You can get advanced coaching or just have fun with your friends.

All of these factors impact how expensive the sport is, and these decisions are all up to you. Most of the high costs related to skydiving happen early on, with tandems, licensing costs, and gear purchases. Once you’re fully into the sport, you have much more control over how much you spend jumping out of airplanes for fun!
